Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common inquires about our services
Can you redesign or revamp my current website so that it is sustainable?
Yes, we can! The first step is to contact us for a free website assessment. During our website analysis we will scan your site for performance, search engine optimization, sustainability, and accessibility issues. We can then meet with you, walk you through our findings, clarify your options for you, and based on your end goals, tell you what steps you are required to achieve them. If we all decide to move forward, we will implement the plan we create.
How long will it take to make my site?
The amount of time required to go from conception to a live site depends on many factors like the site’s complexity and required functionality, your clarity about what you want, and design, development and content production requirements. With small sites, six to eight weeks is average. Larger, more complex sites, obviously require more time. Needless to say, the time requirements for your project will be addressed during our first consultations.
What happens if I want to make changes after the site is completed?
Unless otherwise determined, after a design has been agreed upon, we provide two moderate changes in the contract rate. Additional changes—unless they are a result of an error on our part—will incur additional fees.
Is it really possible to make a website that I’ll like without meeting in person?
Absolutely! While meeting in person is desirable, it is not a requirement for a clear exchange of ideas. Modern technology and effective communication essentially eliminate the barrier of distance. Wherever you are in the world, we can help you!
When is payment for the site due?
Fifty percent of the contract rate is due upon signing the agreement, and the remainder is due upon delivery. We do not provide monthly payment options other than for hosting and maintenance service fees, which are billed in three, six or twelve-month blocks.
How do I pay for remote services?
We accept credit and debit cards, PayPal, bank transfer and crypto currency.
What if I can’t decide how I want my site to look?
No problem! Website design is what we do! As long as we have clarity about your site’s purpose, your audience, your market, resources, obstacles, etc., we can work out the design. Even if you are uncertain about your aims we are here and able to clarify that for you and help you create a sound marketing strategy.
Are there any negative consequences of building a green website?
No, we don’t feel there are. The only potential concern is green website design and hosting can cost slightly more than cheap, non-sustainable websites. However, this cost is quickly offset by the quality and benefits of sustainable design and the absence of unnecessary problems.
Will a green site be slower than a regular site?
Absolutely not! Quite the opposite, making sites and applications perform as efficiently as possible reduces the energy required to render them, and thus, performance is a key component of eco-friendly website design. Fast sites are also ranked better by search engines, making them easier to find, which also reduces the energy required to find the information they contain. Using sustainable hosting ensures that we are reducing carbon emissions when powering our products. In our opinion, sustainable website design and management is the cutting edge of the field and will be a industry best practice in the coming years.
What is managed hosting?
Managed hosting is awesome! Quite simply, we configure, maintain, and update your VPS server, update and maintain your website, monitor performance, provide security, and prevent problems from developing. And if or when they do, we quickly fix them for you!
Many people fail to realize that websites demand continued maintenance and development after they are built, and all to often, owners don’t maintain them as they should and they quickly stop performing as they hoped. Hiring us to manage your site is the solution.
In summary, managed hosting means we take care of everything and you simply don’t need to worry about it, ever.

How much of a difference does a green website make?
Currently, the Internet consumes roughly five to ten percent of the world’s electricity and is responsible for nearly four percent of global carbon emissions. To put that in perspective, communications technology will produce more carbon by 2025 than all but three countries: China, India, and the United States.
On an individual level, building a green website and using hosting powered by renewable energy may seem like a small contribution, but if all of us contribute, this simple act will not only reduce your brand’s carbon footprint, but will also make an important contribution to the reduction of international carbon emissions. I already have a social media page; why would I want a website?
A website is your virtual home base. Social media platforms are a fantastic way to connect with others, but they limit your ability to unveil the various facets of your brand and to utilize many powerful web applications that can enhance the services you offer and your ability to provide them. With a website, the possibilities are truly limitless. Unlike Facebook and other social media outlets, with a website you are not confined to the structure of another service, nor dependent upon it, but instead are free to sculpt your site in whatever manner your wish. This allows you to better control your image, target your audience, exchange ideas, and present or sell your services in whatever manner you choose. At the same time, you can incorporate social media into your website to any degree you like. Your website is your definitive web presence and is where people go from social media to learn more about you. Having a website provides an anchor for all your online endeavors, builds your credibility, and boosts public confidence in your brand.
What is VPS hosting?
VPS stands for virtual private server, though VPS hosting is commonly referred to as cloud hosting.
When you host with us you get your own virtual private server (VPS) on one of our dedicated servers. We allocate resources specifically for you based on your project’s requirements and no one but us will ever have access to it.
VPS hosting has many benefits, especially over shared hosting. With a VPS server, we can configure your RAM, CPU, and disk space how we like. They are easy to scale and to configure to ensure good site performance under heavy loads, and because your website or application will be the only one on your server, they provide optimal security. VPS servers are much faster than everyday shared hosting and can be tuned to maximize performance for a fraction of the cost of a dedicated server (which we also can set you up with if that’s what you need.)
The datacenter where our servers are located is high in the mountains of Taos, New Mexico, where it is cooled by the high mountain air and powered by a connected solar-power array. It runs on 100% renewable energy.

Can you fix the accessibility problems on my site? What are the standards?
We sure can! Making sure your site works for everyone is an important part of sustainable website design and we are happy to set it up for you. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are the standards we use.
